THE SUMMER CAMPING MINISTRY
OF THE GREEK ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF CHICAGO
Greetings parents and campers! We are all very excited about the upcoming camping season at our beautiful facility, the St. Iakovos Retreat Center.
THE FANARI EXPERIENCE
Every summer, hundreds of children from throughout the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago gather for our Fanari summer camp program. Their Orthodox Christian faith comes alive, as they develop friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Countless young adults have donated their time and talents to serve as staff, counselors and mentors to our campers since the beginning of this ministry. Our Core staff is always planning for the future, to guarantee that this “jewel” of our Metropolis is around to provide the same experiences to current and future youth that is did for their parents and grandparents. Among the activities at Fanari Camp are sing-a-longs, campfires, Orthodox life discussion, Bible Study, Greek Culture, dancing, swimming, nature hikes, boating, athletics, Olympic games, skit night and daily worship services.

To help combat homesickness, Campdoc is offering a one-way communication tool that allows you to easily send messges to your camper during their session at camp. Families can purchase tokens in bundles in their online registration for $5, $8 or $10. Homesickness can work in reverse, too. Sending CampGrams can help fight off any sad feelings while your campers are away. CampGrams will be printed and passed out to campers each day after lunch. For more information click here!
Stay connected before, during and after camp! Every day during each session, our blog posts will keep you informed of all the activities and fun going on at camp. A link to our daily photos on our Flickr page will also be included for you to enjoy! Subscribe to our Fanari Camp blog by entering your email address on our wordpress blog page, to receive notifications by email when a new entry is posted. You can also “like” our Fanari Camp Facebook page to watch our "Facebook Live" videos and follow us on Instagram to keep up to date, too!
Various candy, snacks, water, Gatorade, Fanari t-shirts, hats and accessories are sold at the Camp Store, varying in price from $1.00-$20.00. Any remaining money, not spent at camp, will be given back to the camper at the end of the session.
NO CELL PHONE POLICY
To better supervise and insure the privacy of our campers, we have a NO CELL PHONE policy. Campers will have 24/7 access to a core staff member's phone if they need or would like to call home. Any camper found with a cell phone will forfeit their privilege to participate in Fanari Camp, which will result in their dismissal, at the discretion of Fanari Camp and the Director.
